Where did this come from?

Socially Open Lesbians in Demand

The SOLID Network Mission Statement:

The SOLID Network aims to build a coalition of organizations that support the LGBT community – with focused attention on woman-to-woman relationships. Through social networking groups and community interaction, it provides a platform for the individual and collective growth ofparticipants and collaboration within the community. This is accomplished through fellowship, events, and education.

"Socially Open" means open to the LGBT community, but not necessarily the world community. "Lesbian" in The SOLID Network refers to woman-to-woman relationships, rather than a definition of orientation or a place on the Kinsey Scale

What is that logo about?

When it all began

The SOLID Network was founded in March 2011 by Tiff Khris Cochran as a Facebook group based out of Dallas/Ft. Worth called SOLID - Socially Open Lesbians in Dallas. Once the group expanded to the Austin/San Antonio area, "Dallas" was changed to "Demand" to represent the equality we are working to achieve.

Since its inception, TSN has grown to provide a voice and connect the LGBT community as a whole. Our hope is to grow to become a global network, uniting those who wish to provide a greater sense of solidarity for the LGBT community, while also reaching out and embracing straight friends and allies. Through this we hope to not only help our LGBT community to be stronger and more unified, but create and find more areas of common ground with those who seek to understand us.

More than a logo

(s) is the chemical symbol for a solid. For the network, it means we are strong, stable, and comprised of women who are such. We are a part of the fabric of life and therefore, SOLID women are who provide substance in a very fluid society.

The logo with its parenthesis and curvy lines also represents the essence of femininity, no matter where one falls in the spectrum.

The colors are not traditional for a pupose. We are more than LGBT people. That is only a characteristic of who we are. The deep red is to represent life, white is to represent purity of spirit, and black is to represent the emerging of new ideas and acceptance.

Also, the logo is designed in cosideration of those who would like to celebrate being a part of the community, but cannot live "out" just yet. They can don the SOLID symbol and feel included with less concern of their orientation being revealed. "What does that logo mean?" one may ask. "Simply, I'm a SOLID woman."

What makes this a network?

True community

In the human body, each part has its own specialty and function. What makes it work is the collaborative effort to work together. That is where the strength comes from to not only survive, but to thrive.

The SOLID Network seeks to collaborate with both new and established organizations in communities across the globe to provide better opportunities for a sense of community through fellowship, education, and social connections. This includes, but is not limited to social, religious/spiritual, and political groups.

Acknowledgement

The talent of the community

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge Robin Huntley, AKA DJ Rain, for inspiring the logo concept. Robin is a design artist and DJ. When asked to help come up with ideas, she volunteered her time and donated her concept to do so. It takes a community! Thanks, Robbie!

WHAT IS THE SOLID NETWORK?

"Lesbians" only?

The fluidity of sexuality

The SOLID Network recongnizes that one's orientation sometimes takes a lifetime to define, understand, and accept. We also undertand that LGBT is one community rather than four or more. So, although the Facebook groups are focused on woman-to-woman relationships, our mission as a network is to work with the whole of the LGBT community as well as straight allies.
